Tanabata Festival 2018

Tanabata Festival is a Japanese traditional celebration and celebrated every year on July 7 in Japan, and to recall a story of a lover in the heaven Weaver Princess and Cowboy. According to the story of Tanabata, the two lovers are separated by the Amanogawa and allowed to meet once per year on July 7. At that time, Japanese people write their wishes on the wishing paper and hang it on the bamboo tree to have their wishes granted. Japanese people believe that they wish to be the same as the two lovers since they are very hard working and skillful person in doing their tasks. This year, Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, Japan Foundation Asia Center and Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC) will celebrate this event for the purpose of introducing culture exchange between the two nations, to be held from 5 July to 6 July 2018.

Various cultural activities and exhibitions will be conducted as in the following:

  • Decorate and display similar Tanabata Festival in Japan
  • Experience with the cultural and educational exchange between both countries
  • Enjoy and understand more about the story of Tanabata and Tepsodachan
  • Make Origami & Kirigami
  • Write wishes and hang on bamboo trees
  • Enjoy and learn Japanese calligraphy
  • Experience wearing Yukata (Japanese traditional custom)
  • The 9th NODOJIMAN Japanese Song Contest
  • Cook & taste Khmer and Japanese foods & sweets
  • Enjoy foods, drinks, services and products booth more than 10 of Japanese and Cambodian restaurants, companies, and others
  • Enjoy various entertainment programs
  • Enjoy free-style dancing
  • Photo sessions
