Japanese Love Singing Showcase Their Talent at Phnom Penh Nodojiman Competition

Phnom Penh: The 5th Phnom Penh Nodojiman Competition, a karaoke contest for Japanese expatriates and visitors, was held on Sunday, 30th July 2023 at the Angkor - Kizuna Hall of Cambodia - Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC). The event was organized by the Japan Association of Cambodia (JACAM), supported by  the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, the Japanese Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC), the World Association of Overseas Japanese Entrepreneurs (WAOJE), and the CJCC.

The competition aimed to provide a platform for Japanese who love singing to showcase their talent, to gather, entertain, and make more connections for Japanese who are living or staying in Phnom Penh. The contestants sang various genres of Japanese songs, from pop to rock to anime, and were judged by a panel of experts and audience votes. The winners received prizes and certificates from the organizers and sponsors. The event was also a great opportunity for Japanese people and Cambodians to come together and enjoy Japanese music and culture.

The event was attended by His Excellency Atsushi UENO, the Japanese ambassador to Cambodia, who gave a speech. He praised the participants and organizers for their hard work, and he said that it was a wonderful chance to celebrate the event. He also acknowledged that the covid 19 pandemic had prevented the event from happening for two years.

The event also featured special performances by Mr. Heam Senghong, the first Cambodian champion of NODOJIMAN Japanese Song Contest in 2023, who impressed the audience with his fluent Japanese and vocal skills. DJ Moto, a popular Japanese club DJ, also entertained the crowd with his music mixes and interactive games.

The Phnom Penh Nodojiman Competition is one of the many cultural activities that JACAM organizes to support the Japanese community in Cambodia and to introduce Japanese music to the Cambodian public.
